Rhode Island Avenue features in Metro Connection on WAMU 88.5 American University Radio!
The feature marvels at residential real estate prices in Woodridge – up by a third since last year, according to one realtor.
It also highlights a number of the new businesses that are here thanks to the efforts of the Rhode Island Main Street Program: Zeke’s, Good Food Markets and the Bespoke Kitchen Supper Club. And it gives a heads-up on Mediterranean restaurant Nido’s planned opening in May.
“We knew that development was coming… and we wanted to make sure that community members had a voice in what that development looked like.” said Woodridge resident Kyle Todd, one of the founding members of Friends of Rhode Island Avenue in 2011, and now the Main Street Program’s Executive Director. “We realized that we had all these fantastic commercial properties with wide sidewalks and a lot of those spaces were vacant.”
They are filling up fast now. A revival of the once vibrant jazz club scene along the Avenue may not be in the immediate future, the feature notes. But change is coming – so dare to dream!
