Most of you have heard of the harrowing story of Lakira Renee Johnson “a 21-year old woman who was pregnant with twins. Around 10pm on August 30 as she emerged from a Northeast Washington, DC carryout store she was shot in the stomach. Police described her as a bystander who was not targeted by the gunman. Lakira went into labor unexpectedly at MedStar Washington Hospital Center on Saturday. Her twins were born alive and lived long enough to be named Heaven and Nevaeh – “Heaven” spelled backward. Lakira underwent additional surgery Monday to repair damage, caused by the bullet that struck her in the stomach, that could not be addressed until after the twin’s birth.”
Mayor Bowser has announced a search for suspects involved in what she called an “especially vicious crime”. So please donate if you can to help Lakira through the terrible incident and follow the other link to help solve the crime if you have any information.
Vendors can now register for your spot at the Procrastinator’s Holiday Market. Register now through November 18th to avoid a $20 late fee that will be applied if you register after this date. In other words, vendors need to not procrastinate to get their spot lined up.
Last year’s market was a great success and a warm, friendly event for both vendors and sellers and the Rhode Island Avenue NE community. Make sure you get involved and get your wares out there.
