July 8, 2016, WASHINGTON, D.C. – ReCreative Spaces, Mid-City Development, and local artists and organizations are pARTnering to launch Art in the Park(ing lot) this July in the NE DC neighborhood of Brentwood. Through a series of fun, interactive events for all ages, the initiative seeks to promote local engagement and neighborhood wellness, while also increasing curb appeal of a dilapidated shopping center along Rhode Island Avenue NE.
In July, programming will kick off with a series of hands-on art activities, live music and dancing, and other wellness events (TBA). Mid-City launched this initiative, which will bring together local groups, organizations, and community members, as a way to make the Rhode Island Avenue NE experience more dynamic and inclusive in the coming years. ReCreative Spaces will curate, produce, and manage these free outdoor events and workshops, specifically tailored for local interests in the parking lot of what was formerly known as Brentwood Village Shopping Center (1301 Rhode Island Ave NE).
With input from the community and through collaboration with local artists and organizations, ReCreative Spaces will host weekly activities through mid October, which will transform the parking lot into a colorful oasis to be enjoyed by all. Events kick off with a chance to join local artists for visual and performing arts workshops, and include an opportunity to help beautify the parking lot. This event series is FREE, open to the public, and family friendly. For the latest updates, to offer input via a brief online survey, and for more information about Art in the Park(ing lot), visit recreativespaces.com/parkingart.

We just learned about a new business coming to RIA Main Street soon!
“The Museum” will be located at 2014 Rhode Island Ave NE, and according to the owners, Greg Harrison and Raquel Richardson, it will be part museum, part shoe store. How’s that for a great combination? Here’s the official description, straight from Greg:
“The Museum is a premium boutique that caters to enthusiasts who use fashion and art as sources of inspiration. Our boutique is designed as an art gallery which allows the curation of popular culture through elegance and design.
The Museum retail experience offers apparel, footwear, collectible goods and artwork from the most coveted brands and artists around the world. We epitomize quality and exclusivity through a vision of excellence and distinction.”
